Many of us came to Narcotics Anonymous out of the desperate loneliness of our addiction. After coming to meetings, we begin to make new friends, and often our feelings of loneliness ease. But many of us must contend with loneliness throughout our recovery. What is the cure for loneliness? The best cure is to begin a relationship with a Higher Power that can help fill the emptiness of our heart. We find that when we have a belief in a Higher Power, we never have to feel lonely. We can be alone more comfortably when we have a conscious contact with a God of our understanding. We often find deep fulfillment in our interactions with others as we progress in our recovery. Yet we also find that, the closer we draw to our Higher Power, the less we need to surround ourselves with others. We begin to find a spirit within us that is our constant companion as we continue to explore and deepen our connection with a Power greater than ourselves.

So what does this have to do with the age of Earth? Radioactive decay eventually results in the formation of stable daughter products. Radioactive materials decay at known rates. As time passes, the proportion of radioactive isotopes will decrease and the proportion of daughter isotopes will increase. A rock with a relatively high proportion of radioactive isotopes is probably very young, while a rock with a high proportion of daughter products is probably very old. Scientists measure the rate of radioactive decay with a unit called half-life. The half-life of a radioactive substance is the amount of time, on average, it takes for half of the atoms to decay. For example, imagine a radioactive substance with a half-life of one year. When a rock is formed, it contains a certain number of radioactive atoms. After one year (one half-life), half of the radioactive atoms have decayed to form stable daughter products, and 50% of the radioactive atoms remain. After another year (two half-lives), half of the remaining radioactive atoms have decayed, and 25% of the radioactive atoms remain. After the third year (three half-lives), 12.5% of the radioactive atoms remain. After four years (four half-lives), 6.25% of the radioactive atoms remain, and after 5 years (five half-lives), only 3.125% of the radioactive atoms remain.

Amino acid racemization and the preservation of ancient DNA. University of Munich, Germany. The extent of racemization of aspartic acid, alanine, and leucine provides criteria for assessing whether ancient tissue samples contain endogenous DNA. In samples in which the D/L ratio of aspartic acid exceeds 0.08, ancient DNA sequences could not be retrieved. Paleontological finds from which DNA sequences purportedly millions of years old have been reported show extensive racemization, and the amino acids present are mainly contaminates. An exception is the amino acids in some insects preserved in amber. Predicting protein decomposition: the case of aspartic-acid racemization kinetics. Fossil Fuels and Environmental Geochemistry (Postgraduate Institute), NRG, University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK. The increase in proportion of the non-biological (D-) isomer of aspartic acid (Asp) relative to the L-isomer has been widely used in archaeology and geochemistry as a tool for dating marlin model 60 (please click the following internet site). The non-linear kinetics of Asp racemization have prompted a number of suggestions as to the underlying mechanism(s) and have led to the use of mathematical transformations which linearize the increase in D-Asp with respect to time.

Thutmose III reigned fifty-four years, counting from the end of the reign of his father. Hatshepsut either died or was deposed around his twenty-second year. He became Egypt's greatest king and expanded its empire to the Euphrates with fourteen separate campaigns against the North Eastern area from the twenty-third to thirty-ninth year of his reign. There were no expeditions to Canaan in the last twelve years of his reign. He would be well into his forties in his thirty-ninth year, but there could be another reason for this cessation of campaigning. If the Exodus took place at his accession, the cessation of these campaigns coincided with the ending of Israel's forty years sojourn in the wilderness and the start of their conquest of Canaan. Thutmose III was a thoughtful Pharaoh; as evidenced by his strategic and tactical prowess in battle and his diplomatic skills in running his empire. It would have been foolish to take on the people who had brought such havoc and destruction in the reign of his father. Canaan had been part of Egypt's empire under this great warrior king for nearly twenty years (and there is evidence of his generalship under Hatshepsut's rule). Throughout its history, Egypt has always been mindful of the danger from the North-East and always endeavoured to control Canaan either directly, or maintain a friendly buffer state there.
