The Federal Government has accused leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, of "becoming uncontrollable" in India. The Shi’ites leader is currently in India for medical treatment, based on a court order.tiny.cc The Permanent Secretary, nigeria Ministry of Information and Culture, Grace Gekpe, alleged this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja. El-Zakzaky openly complained about the increased security presence around him in the Indian hospital. She described his claim as "a foul cry" that should be disregarded. She said the Islamic cleric started displaying "ulterior motives against laid down procedures" when he and his wife had a stopover in Dubai. She said the situation continued in India where El-Zakzaky initially insisted that he should be checked into a hotel instead of a hospital and also asked for unfettered access to visitors.

According to Gekpe, the situation got to a stage that the Indian authorities expressed their readiness to return him to Nigeria. The statement read, "The Court on August 5, 2019, granted Sheikh Ibraheem EL-Zakzaky leave to travel to India for medical treatment. Consequently, the government and its relevant agencies took steps to comply with the order. In line with the court order, El-Zakzaky was approved to embark on the trip with state officials and his choice to be accompanied by his aides and personal doctors was not opposed by the government. On August 12, 2019, he and other members of the entourage went to India via Dubai.

It is to be noted that El-Zakzaky particularly chose Medanta Hospital, India. However, on reaching Dubai, El-Zakzaky began to display ulterior motives against laid down procedures. He requested that his passport be handed over to him but the state officials would not budge to his pressure. The situation became worse in India as he refused to subject himself to preliminary medical checks. In addition, he demanded free movement and access to visitors of all kinds as well as requested to be allowed to check into a five-star hotel instead of being admitted in the hospital. The request was refused on the ground that he came into the country for medicals and not as a tourist (more so that his Visa was issued on medical grounds and not for tourism). The government also wishes to use this opportunity to affirm its readiness to undertake the prosecution of El-Zakzaky through due process if and when he is returned to the country.

This is because even at that time we know that Shia is not Islam. Based on that, we sat him down to tell him the implication of what he was doing. He kept saying that he was not into Shi’a that he was only into struggle for revival of Islam. This started in early 1980s. When we realised that he would not listen, largely because it involves a lot of money, we left him alone. "But our elder brother, nigeria Malam Abdulqadir Yakubu, did not stop counselling him. In fact, about a week or so before their clash with the Army, our elder brother wrote him.

Zakzaky believed that the establishment of a republic along similar religious lines in Nigeria would be feasible. The Shi’ites group before the December 12-14, bit.ly 2015 incident was unknown to many, especially Nigerians of Southern extraction. To Northerners however, they were a group of extremists who often disturb non-members’ peace. An average northerner and other Nigerian resident in the North has had one unpleasant encounter or the other with the Zakzaky group. It is either one’s movement was at one time or nigeria another disrupted by protesting Shi’ite members, or they grounded activities in areas where their events took place. Residents of Gyellesu, a Zaria community where Sheikh Zakzaky resides have bitter tales to tell about their living with the Shi’ites.

Though, they could not complain before December 2015, due to fear of intimidations, the area went into jubilation when Zakzaky was whisked away. A Chieftain of Gyellesu community, Malam Mu’izzu Daruddeen recently said, Zazzau Emirate is now safe and conducive without Sheik Ibrahim El-zakzaky. He said, the ancient city and its environs had recorded "sudden positive change" in its day-to-day activities. According him, "as peace loving organisation and patriotic citizens of this nation, we are in support of anything that will promote peace, unity and harmonious relationship among people. Every resident of Zaria is affected directly or indirectly by the self-acclaimed powers and disregard for traffic rules by the Shi’ite members in Zaria, especially when it comes to the use of public roads. "These Shi’ite members consider any other person as a second class citizen who has no rights and privileges.

Whenever the leader of the Shi’ite was going for preaching, he would be escorted by youths bearing dangerous weapons. These boys traumatised and brutally dealt with anybody while El-zakzaky was on transit. Complaints to police at different times did not yield any result," he said. When El-zakzaky was in Gyallesu, the area became a home to all kinds of criminals because his boys did not allow uniform personnel into the area, no matter the level of crime committed. These boys used to search anybody that is coming into the area irrespective of his or her status. "Again, once they lock up the gates at night you have no right to go out for whatever reason.

The kind of loyalty these boys accorded El-zakzaky was second to none. They see him as a messiah. They neither have respect for constitution nor any constituted authority. His instruction is the final." Daruddeen said. However, since the detention of the IMN leader, things have not been the same with the Shi’ite group. One, the December incident has no doubt crippled the group’s excesses and robbed it of its excessive powers. Secondly, the Zakzaky who has the direct link with those funding the group in Iran is out of reach of his followers. His absence has equally led to what can be termed as the fictionalization of the Shi’ite group.

Though, its leader yet unknown, a faction of the movement has, since the arrest of Zakzaky dissociated itself from the Zakzaky led IMN. It has equally continued to preach against Zakzaky the principles for which the detained leader stood. The IMN which felt threatened by the the development recently issued a warning circular to its members. The circular issued by a chieftain of the IMN Media Forum, Abdulmumini Giwa, alleged that the faction was a parallel Shi’ite group created by the Israeli and Saudi Arabian authorities. "They are working hand-in-hand nigeria with the compromised Nigerian security apparatus to ensure they stop the Islamic Movement under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky. The Israeli’s are after fighting the increasing Iranian influence while the Saudi’s are against the fast spreading of Shi’ism in Africa which is a threat to their terror laden Wahabism.

"Some of the steps they have taken includes founding a fake Shi’ite organization to counter the growth and strength of IMN. "The attack, killing and subsequent arrest of members of thhe IMN in Zaria last December was part of the plan which they are still pursuing. "You will always see them pretending to be Shi’ites and attacking Sheikh Zakzaky. I advice that you remain steadfast and resolute as always, for they have already failed as usual," the circular read. In the area funding however, the Shi’ite group have practically resulted to taxing members to run their programmes. Though, they have state leaders, none of them is yet to assume Zakzaky’s position as the custodian of the movement’s resources and power.

Similarly, one would observe from their recent events that the once powerful Shi’ite group has now become a friendly, and ‘law abiding’ Islamic sect. Law abiding in the sense that, they are now conscious of the existence of security agencies. Agreed, they still don’t get police permission to stage protests or processions, but they now quickly disperse when security agents appear to stop their gatherings. The group held its annual Qud’s Day procession in several Northern cities last week, without any reported attack or harassment of other citizens. All these are indications that, Shi’ite without Zakzaky is no longer at ease.

Members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) have debunked an allegation levelled against its members by the Nigerian Army that they are planning to invade and force their way into the 'Three Arms Zone' Abuja. This was contained in a press statement issued on Friday, signed by the Spokesperson of the movement, Shuaib Isa Ahmad, nigeria in Abuja and made available to journalists. The group said that there was no occasion its members make such attempt, adding that they are law-abiding citizens and would never engage in such unwholesome act. The statement noted that the group had on several occasions submitted protest letters to the leadership of National Assembly and presidency and lawmakers have addressed them at the main gate of the complex. The sect said that the latest allegation was a plan by the Military to attack Free Zakzaky protesters. The group vowed to continue with their protest to demand immediate and unconditional release their spiritual leader and his wife.

Elrufai faulted the statement allegedly made by the minister of information, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, when he hosted the management team of The Sun Publishing Limited, yesterday. Recall that Lai Muhammed had argued that the federal government spends N3.5m monthly on El-Zakzaky’s feeding. A statement that has sparked allot of controversies with many criticizing the federal government of over spending on a detained man. According to the Kaduna state governor, the N3.5 million was not on feeding of the Shi’ite leader but on everything related to his protective custody. He said El-Zakzaky is guarded by a detachment of soldiers and DSS operatives who live in the place he is being kept and who is maintained by the state government. His words, "The N3.5 million monthly feeding on El-Zakzaky is not only about his food, but other expenses on security men attached to him. The security men are permanently stationed with him, they surrounded where he is kept," el-Rufai said.

There is palpable anxiety as a Kaduna high court rule on a bail application by the detained leader of the banned Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibraheem El Zakzaky. Already, the Kaduna State police command has announced the diversion of traffic in some areas in the state, especially roads leading to the court where the detained Islamic leader and his wife are to be arraigned. But the Kaduna State government in a statement assured citizens in the state to go about their lawful business as adequate measures have been taken to protect lives and properties. Some citizens in the state capital who spoke with Vanguard said they will stay indoors on Monday to assess the situation of things until after the court decides on the bail application. "I will not take chances.

I will stay at home until the court session is over. I don’t want to experience what I experienced the last time when members of the IMN protested" Ikechukwu Simon, tire dealers on Katsina road told Vanguard. But in a statement issued in Kaduna Sunday evening, Samuel Aruwan, state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs said "appropriate security arrangements have been made to protect citizens and uphold law and order across the city. Therefore, the Kaduna State Government has assured residents that they can go about their lawful business as their freedom of movement is guaranteed. He said "citizens should ignore the scaremongering by certain interests. As they have done at previous hearings of the El-Zakzaky matter, security deployments will preserve calm in the city, secure citizens and protect their right to free movement".

Earlier in a statement, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Yakubu Sabo assured citizens of the state that adequate security measures have been put in place to protect lives and properties. "Members of the public should note that the ban on all forms of processions/demonstrations in Kaduna State is still in force. The Police will not hesitate to deal decisively with any person or group of persons who deliberately attempt to violate the ban. "In view of the Court Trial of Malam Ibrahim El-Zakzaky on Monday 5th August 2019, the peace-loving and law-abiding people of Kaduna State are to note that adequate security has been put in place for a hitch-free court appearance. Therefore, members of the public are advised to remain calm and not to be apprehensive where they observe an unusual number of security personnel in town. "The Command uses this medium to call on the general public to report suspicious activities or persons around them to the nearest security agency.

Kaduna — The daughter of the detained leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) otherwise known as Shiites, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, Suhaila El-Zakzaky, has insisted that the group will continue its protesters till her father is released. Suhaila said this in reaction to a statement on Wednesday by the President of the IMN Media Forum, Ibrahim Musa, that the protests have been temporarily suspended. Musa had said the suspension, which came after the federal government banned the group, was as a result of "some new openings into the resolution of the problems" involving the proscription of its activities. But reacting via a video she released yesterday, Suhaila said Musa cannot speak on behalf of the group.

The court proceedings started around 9 AM in the morning where Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky was represented by Advocate Femi Falana San. The session started with the plaintiff expressing the urgency of the matter citing Sheikh’s health condition. The government counsel complained the late submission of the ‘bulky’ medical report asking for more time, which the judge rejected saying that the claim of the report being bulky was untrue.tinyurl.com After a round of arguments from both sides and despite plaintiff describing Sheikh’s deteriorating health condition and stating that Sheikh hadn’t slept for seven consecutive days, the court was adjourned for eleven days. The next hearing is now scheduled for 29th of July. This delay in judgment comes at a time when Sheikh is in critical health condition and is in need of immediate medical attention.

The Nigerian authorities may allow Sheikh to travel abroad at a later time, but the simple act of delaying the procedure might cause numerous complications in his health. As per the report by the IHRC medical team, one of Sheikh’s eyes is completely damaged, while the other one only has 20 percent vision left. This might be a result of the tragic incident when his residence was raided by the Nigerian army back in 2015, murdering three of his sons and assaulting him. There are high possibilities of government interference in postponing and delaying his case in hope of minimizing the international pressure.

Amnesty International Nigeria’s Interim Director Makmid Kamara made a statement in 2017 hinting at that. He was quoted saying that ‘El-Zakzaky is being unlawfully detained. ‘Even today, both were unable to walk to the courtroom and had to wait outside while the case went on. In spite of all these, the court has once again allowed the government to kill these innocent people by installments via unnecessary delays,’ said Yola. Despite its importance, the delay in the case with Sheikh's deteriorating health might not be the only pressing issue regarding him at the moment. There is a chance that an ultimate ruling by the court allowing him to leave the country for treatment may not be implemented at all.

Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, has alleged that the condition at the Indian hospital where he and his wife, Zeenat were taken to, is worse than that of Nigeria. According to him, they were only brought to another detention facility and they do not feel safe there because a new set of doctors whom he had not made any prior arrangement with, were brought to handle his case. This was confirmed by the spokesperson of the IMN, Ibrahim Musa, who said the group had received an audio message from El-Zakzaky in which he told them of the "terrible condition" they had been subjected to in India. We are now here in New Delhi, India. As you all know there was an arrangement for us to come here to seek medical care regarding the ailments that we have, myself and Malama Zeenah. She, Malama Zeenah has a full bullet lodged in her body(that needs to be removed), also she is in need of a knee replacement surgery in addition to other problems. Then the second thing would be to clean my body of the toxins, which I was told are deposited in the bones and some in the flesh and this normally takes time to be done. I also have a problem with my eye which the doctors that attended to us since after I had a second operation and my sight weakened, suggested that I should be taken to better facilities to have it tended to.

After all this, we were all happy that we are in Delhi and we would be going to a suitable hospital to receive appropriate treatment. In addition, the doctors that came to visit us when we were in Nigeria advised us to come to this hospital called Medanta. That is why we requested to be brought to this hospital. So before we left Nigeria we heard the news that the American embassy here in India was pressuring the hospital not to admit us when we arrive. And that the hospital had agreed to refuse admitting us. So we were considering going somewhere else when we arrive.

But we were later informed that the problem had been sorted out and we would be admitted to the hospital. So we set out from Nigeria. As soon as we arrived here, we were met with some hospital staff at the airport that escorted us to the hospital. Since we were in the ambulance they informed that there were a lot of people at the airport waiting to see us even if just when we are boarding the ambulance. And they also said that there was a lot of people at the hospital entrance to see us arrive. But they informed us that if we arrive we will be taken in through a back entrance.

They said they did this due to the high number of people, they were concerned that in people’s attempt to reach us in the crowd some harm can be done to us, that’s what they said. So we saw that we were practically brought to another detention facility which is even stricter than the one we were in back in Nigeria. They came here with police armed with guns and a lot of staff from the Nigerian embassy. And we also noticed we were brought into another detention that we only came based on trust. Even in Nigeria, they agreed where we were detained that we would be treated only by the doctors we choose and are comfortable with allowing to treat us.

But here we understand that the doctors that advised us to come here are blocked from having any say in our case. They even told us when we spoke to them, they are only allowed to advise but the hospital reserves the right to decide the course of our treatment. So I told them that, we came here based on the trust we have in our doctors, we cannot just see any doctor that we don’t know, or trust to treat us. And without recommendation from those we do trust, nigeria we cannot allow a stranger to treat us, lest not what couldn’t be done with bullets be carried out in a different way.

Due to this, we think that based on everything we have seen so far indicates to us that we are not safe here. We were just brought to another detention. I have been detained now for a collective total of about 13 years but I have never seen a detention like the one I am in now. Even at the door, they have placed armed police. Even between one room to the next we are not allowed to move. Then I see that even where we were, and of all the times I have been imprisoned in Nigeria, I have not seen anything like this. When I was in an actual prison They used to lock us up around 9:00 pm and open the doors at 7:00 am, and we could move about where ever we wish within the prison facility we were detained in. I see here that even when I was in kirikiri prison it wasn’t as constricting as in this situation.

A group calling itself "students and seminary scholars of the world of Islam" held a protest in front of the Nigerian embassy on Wednesday afternoon in Tehran. Zakzaky, who carries the title of Ayatollah is an outspoken leading Shi'ite cleric in Nigeria. He is the founder and head of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN). In December 2015, the Nigerian Army raided his residence in Zaria, seriously injured him and his wife and killing three of his sons and hundreds of his followers. Since then, he has remained under detention in the nation's capital, Abuja. He was ordered to be released by a federal high court in late 2016. The army simply ignored the order. Later in April 2018, he was charged with murder, culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, disruption of public peace and other accusations. He has pleaded not guilty.

Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, has now departed Nigeria for India where he will be receiving medical treatment. He travelled in company with his wife, Zeenat, and other family members amidst tight security on Monday evening. The IMN leader has been in detention for over two years despite court orders for his release. He will be receiving medical attention in an Indian hospital, according to his lawyer, Femi Falana. A source at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, confirmed the departure during a chat with Sahara Reporters. The source said, "The airport is tensed as we speak. No one knows what will happen but they have secretly taken him inside the aircraft.
